Since 6:30am this morning City Crews are currently working on repairing a water main break near Scott Street and Highway 425.

Water service will be disrupted for the area until crews can repair the leak.

UPDATE: 10:32 PM

City crews are finalizing repairs and are preparing to open valves. Barring any more unexpected line ruptures, water service should be restored soon.

Crews are still on scene working. Crews repaired the original leak and another section of pipe ruptured. Water pressure is low due to the opening of fire hydrants to alleviate pressure on the water line so that it can be accessed and worked on.

Crews on scene are anticipating roughly another hour of work. Due to a water leak, water service will be disrupted from the intersection of Highway 425 down Allen Drive to North Chester and from the intersection of Allen Drive and North Chester southward on North Chester. City crews have arrived on scene and a rough estimate of service disruption is 2-3 hours. Thank you for your patience!

The Cherry Street and Highway 278 paving project has been completed.

The City of Monticello continues to perform not only preventative, but NEW storm drainage work. We continually work to ensure that our lower lying areas of town face a reduced threat of flooding.

These before and after photos show an area near Vinegar Hill that was improved recently by our Drainage Department. Not only did our crew repair the natural drainage pathways, they also removed debris covering existing water and sewer infrastructure in the area, making access to these vital parts of our infrastructure much easier to access in the event of a leak.?

On Tuesday August 10th, City Streets and Drainage workers began another project to reduce potential flooding by improving storm runoff on North Main connecting through to Slemmons Street.

The work consists of removing debris that impacts the natural drainage flow and reshaping and cleaning out the creek beds so water will flow. Check out these before and during photos of work completed thus far!

The City of Monticello continues to work to improve storm drainage and flooding in low-lying areas in town, especially on the East end of Monticello.

Wednesday July 15th, crews were performing follow-up maintenance on a drainage ditch on Mill Street and uncovered a large chunk of concrete that had been buried in decades past and was blocking a large storm drain from performing as it was designed. There appears to be no reason why the concrete was placed where it was decades ago as it serves no purpose other than blocking storm water flow.

Crews removed the concrete and stagnant water flowed for 30-45 minutes. The ditch was also widened to accommodate the additional flow that it will now receive before tying in to a larger channel and shuttling the storm drainage out of town.

Removing blockages such as this reduce the potential of flooding neighborhoods upstream and also reduces mosquito breeding grounds.

ARDOT will begin milling the town square beginning this Sunday, April 19, 2026 beginning at 6:00 p.m. they will mill this area Sunday night, Monday and Tuesday nights tentatively beginning at the same time on the subsequent nights. We are sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause and thank you for your patience as we continue to rebuild Monticello’s roads and infrastructure.

ATTENTION * WATER LEAK *The City of Monticello is working on a water main leak that has occurred and is causing low water pressure in the Parkwood Subdivision / North Hyatt street areas. City staff has responded and will be working on repairing the issue.

On Monday, March 23, 2026 from 9am until 1 pm the City of Monticello will be repairing the large drainage culvert located on Mason Hill near the intersection of Mason Hill and East Willis Street. The closing is expected to last from 9am until 1pm.

All traffic on Mason Hill will be shut down during this time while this infrastructure improvement project is completed. Door hangers, robo-calls and other forms of notification have been utilized, but we want to be as thorough as possible to avoid any inconvenience for the residents of the neighborhood.

City crews will be working in the late evening and at night to prepare manholes for the upcoming paving of Main Street. The work is being performed at night so that the work will have less impact on daytime traffic. Please drive carefully and help watch for city workers as they work to rebuild Monticello’s roads and infrastructure.
