The stage is set for an exciting new campus event at the University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM). On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 7:30 p.m., UAM will kick off the fall semester with an outdoor concert featuring country act Patrick Averill.

The event will also include yard games, refreshments and opportunities for students to connect with campus organizations and one another. The event is free and open to the UAM campus community. 

The event is sponsored by UAM Student Programs and Activities. James Hanten, director of Student Programs and Activities, is responsible for bringing the concert to UAM. “I started asking students what kinds of special events they wanted to see at the university,” Hanten explained. “One of the things that kept coming up was a concert on campus.”

On Friday August 7th, 2026 at 10:02pm, Monticello Fire Department responded to a house fire of Burnett Lane. Engines 1 and 2 responded. The home suffered major damage. No injuries were reported.

Think you can kick a 25-yard field goal?

Introducing the Boll Weevil Field Goal Challenge – presented by The Office of Student Programs and Activities and UAM Athletics!

At each home football game, one randomly selected UAM student will have the chance to kick a 25-yard field goal (35 total yards) for extra Declining Balance.

The prize starts at $50 and rolls over by $50 each game if the kick is missed—building up to a potential $250 jackpot at the final home game of the season. If the kick is made, the prize resets to $50.

Mainline Health Systems, Inc. (MHSI) has been awarded a $15,906 grant from the Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation to implement its Smile Smart oral health education program, bringing engaging dental health lessons to 1,963 elementary
students across Southeast Arkansas.

Smile Smart is designed to inspire lasting behavior change among young learners by making oral health education fun, interactive, and memorable. Through age-appropriate lessons, hands-on activities, and practical resources, the program teaches children the
importance of daily brushing, flossing, and healthy eating habits.

The curriculum uses engaging visuals, games, and real-life examples to help students understand the connection between oral health and overall well-being. By introducing healthy habits early, the program aims to equip children with the knowledge and
confidence needed to maintain good oral hygiene throughout their lives.
