A jury in Ashley County has found Michael Hicks guilty of sexual assault in the second degree following a trial in Ashley County Circuit Court before Judge Robert Gibson III.
The conviction stems from a 2023 investigation by the Arkansas State Police Crime Against Children Division and the Ashley County Sheriff’s Office concluding that Hicks engaged in illegal sexual contact with a minor under the age of 14.
Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Sandra Bradshaw, represented the State of Arkansas. Hicks was represented by defense attorney Joe Mazzanti. After both parties presented their sides of the case, the jury found Hicks guilty.
According to the Arkansas Secretary of State website, Harrell Wilson received 3111 votes for the state Senate seat 1 contest, with Missy Wardlaw receiving 1679 ballots cast in her favor, district wide.

The City of Monticello continues to perform not only preventative, but NEW storm drainage work. We continually work to ensure that our lower lying areas of town face a reduced threat of flooding.
These before and after photos show an area near Vinegar Hill that was improved recently by our Drainage Department. Not only did our crew repair the natural drainage pathways, they also removed debris covering existing water and sewer infrastructure in the area, making access to these vital parts of our infrastructure much easier to access in the event of a leak.?
Big THANK YOU to our public works departments for all that they do behind the scenes that keep Monticello safe and moving forward!
