Weevils Leave Harding With First Loss Of The Season

UAMvHardingFinal2023The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team played their third game of the 2023 season on Saturday evening when the Boll Weevils traveled to Great American Conference foe Harding University. UAM came out of the contest with a final score of 59-19 and their first loss on the year.

Arkansas-Monticello struggled to stop the Harding for majority of the game, finding moments of glory to score a few touchdowns of their own. The offense would put up 217 total offensive yards in the match-up. Demilon Brown contributed one touchdown on the game, connecting with Arlie Lee.

Brown gave a 18-32 performance with 183 passing yards. Kristian Gammage led UAM in receiving for three receptions and 92 total yards, with the longest being a 52-yarder. On the ground, Brown led the Boll Weevils with 12 carries for a net total of 15 yards.

Defensively, Alfernee Hankins stood above the rest with nine total tackles and four solo stops on the night.

Dylan Duhon led the day in extra point attempts, going 1-1.

Post Game
Boll Weevil Head Coach Hud Jackson had this to say after the game: “Got beat in every facet of the game. Got out coached and it showed tonight. I have to be better at leading this team and teaching how to handle success. I will be better so our team has a chance to overcome adversity. This loss is squarely on my shoulders. Period. We will start preparing for OBU tomorrow. We need a great crowd next week. We will be prepared!! Eat’em up!”

  • 10:19 – HAR | Braden Jay rushed 14 yards into the UAM endzone for the first points of the game.
  • 05:49 – HAR | Blake Delacruz gave the Bisons a two touchdown lead on am 8-yard rush.
  • 03:40 – UAM | Demauryon Holmes recovered a fumble and scored for the Weevils.
  • 00:49 – HAR | Blake Delacruz grabbed his second touchdown of the night on a 2-yard rush.

Second Quarter

  • 05:30 – HAR | Jhalen Spicer rushed 24 yards into the endzone for Harding’s fourth rushing touchdown of the game
  • 02:28 – UAM | Arlie Lee pulled in a 28-yard pass from Demilon Brown to score, making it a 28-12 game.
  • 00:47 – HAR | Blake Delacruz rushed into the endzone for a third time, this touchdown for four yards.

Third Quarter

  • 11:05 – HAR | Cole Keylon rushed for a sixth Bison touchdown.
  • 10:07 – HAR | Devontae Manning recovered a fumble and scored, giving Harding a 49-12 lead.

Fourth Quarter

  • 13:42 – UAM | Arlie Lee rushed four yards into the endzone for his second touchdown on the night.
  • 12:46 – HAR | Tyler Ross ran 32 yards into the Boll Weevil endzone to score.
  • 06:30 – HAR | Grant Ennis kicked a 33-yard field goal for the final points of the game.

The Weevils return home to Willis “Convoy” Leslie Cotton Boll Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 23, looking to avenge their performance this weekend. The Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day game is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
