“Welcome to Monticello; Sorry We Stole your Flags.”

August 10th, 2015 by

imageWhen 15 World Series teams came to Monticello, each team brought with them a state flag from home.

There were 15 colorful flags, representing teams from Washington to Massachusetts to California to Alabama to Panama, blowing the wind; until a theif stole 13 of the flags, Saturday night.

Between 10 PM Saturday night, and 7 AM Saturday morning, someone climbed the outfield fence, stole 13 flags, representing our world series guests and took them.

The poles were found laying on the ground next to a wooden fence by a nearby apartment complex, but the flags have not yet to be found.

The Monticello Police Department does have leads to follow, but any member of the public who may have seen or are in the information relative to this case, is asked to call 367-3411.

Let’s hope to get this case solved so that these thousands of guests do not have “Stolen Souvenirs” as their “Monticello Memory”.

  1. Jen says:

Come on people!! Really you are so low you steal the flags of these teams who have brought great revenue to our town?? I guess you are too good to work and make an honest living like the majority of us. So sorry to the teams, most Monticello residents are good honest people.

  2. Debbie Hyastt says:

Goodness, somebody’s classy. My deepest apologies to all the visiting teams.

  3. Lelia Davis says:

I agree that will be what they remember too not the games. I dont understand why people do such things as this. I can only believe it is jealousy of someone doing what they believe in doing and they dont have the guts to try these things

  4. Wow says:

First of all, “we” did not steal the flags. Unfortunately though the village idiot(s) that did represent Monticello now. It is sad that some people have no respect for others and only think of themselves.

I hope they are caught soon….too late for the damage done to “our” reputation.

  5. Martha says:

I think it is a shame that we welcome the hard working teams to our town this way. I hope they find those responsible and get the flags back. These teams have worked hard to get here. Let’s support them.

  6. Billie09 says:

Another solid reason this town is heading down the pipes. Monticello is becoming a crime ridden community filled with theft and armed robberies everytime you log onto this paper.

  7. how low down can some one be?? this is horrible. come on monticello/ drew county we are better than this..
