Prowler Stalking Rural Community (& Children), Late at Night

June 15th, 2015 by

DCSO LOGOThe Drew County Sheriff’s Office has received several reports in reference to a prowler in rural Drew County,

specifically the Greenhill / Old Warren Rd. Community over the last couple of days.  They have learned that this has been going on over the past couple of months.

DCSO has received reports of the prowler going to multiple residences during the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 9, between 2:45 a.m. – 3:30 a.m.

AAt 1 residence the suspect went to a 3 year old child’s window and knocked on it, waking up the child. When the child was woken up the suspect began to talk to the child through the window telling her to open the door for him.

The 3 year old child got up out of bed and tried to open the door for the unknown man, but was unable to get the door unlocked. The child then woke her parents up, telling them of a man being at the door.  The father then heard a noise coming from outside the home.  While approaching the door, he could hear light tapping on the door and the man talking. When the man noticed the father he ran into the woods.

A short while later another residence was visited by the suspect where he beat on the door wanting to use the phone or get a ride. He was denied a ride, but was allowed to use the phone. After this home learned later in the morning of what happened he notified the Sheriff’s Office giving a description of the suspect.

On Tuesday, night extra patrol was done in the area, but nothing was seen out of the ordinary, until a call came in about the suspect who fit the description of the earlier witness.

The Sheriff’s investigator was advised that the man had opened up a vehicle door and when the lights of the vehicle was noticed they came out to investigate and observed the suspect kneeled down behind another vehicle. They approached the suspect ordering him the stop and the suspect proceeded to run on foot, disappearing into the woods.

Sheriff Mark Gober advises citizens to keep all doors and windows locked to both their homes and vehicles,  day and night. “We also encourage parents to talk to their children regarding not opening the doors for strangers or even talking to them.”

Please report any and all suspicious persons or activities to the Sheriff’s Office.

Due to the reports, patrols will be greatly increased throughout the area.

Suspects description is…

White male, approximately 5′ 10″, weight approximately 140-150 lbs, Sandy blonde / light brown hair, tattoo (believed Left forearm between elbow and wrist) oval shaped design last seen wearing a black t-shirt with old military style camo pants.

Anyone with any information or leads please contact the Drew County Sheriff’s Office at 367-6211
