NAACP local Branch #6042 hosted a Baccalaureate Ceremony on May 20, 2018 to present its local scholarships. Scholarship Chair, Sheena Garrard, reported “It was our goal to provide a scholarship opportunity for 2018 Seniors who attend Dermott, Drew Central, Monticello, and Warren High Schools. The purpose of the scholarship was to encourage student participation in a post-secondary program of study and to relieve a portion of the financial burden. Drew Central Fourth Graders Attend a Mock Engineering Academy

Drew Central fourth grade students learned that their are many challenges when reading a technical schematic diagram. Students working with a partner were given the task to build a toy Bionicle. None of the Bionicles were the same. Students were required to build the toy Bionicle following a step process and were not given a picture of what was being built. This project gave students the opportunity to practice critical thinking, team building, and perseverance skills.
