Judge Akin described the Cares Act $648,000 benefit to Drew County being dependent on finding providers to oversee food pantry distribution and rental assistance.
Probable sources to oversee these, as required by the governor, were suggested. They just need to be confirmed, before proceeding with the quorum court’s vote on the Cares Act.
Aurayia Simpson of Monticello, a registered nursing major at South Arkansas Community College, has accepted a Receiving Education Achievement Close to Home Scholarship to attend the school this fall.

The Rodeo Team at the University of Arkansas at Monticello is a member of the Ozark Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA). With Covid-19 precautions in place, the Ozark Region’s season began this weekend in Marshall, Missouri, at the Missouri Valley College Viking Stampede, where 15 teams competed. D’Arbonee Forte of Monticello, a 2020 graduate of Drew Central High School, has accepted a Presidential Scholarship to attend South Arkansas Community College this fall.
In high school, the daughter of Sharonda Forte was a member of National Honor Society, National Beta Club, the softball team, the cheerleading squad, the yearbook staff and the Big Red Student Advisory Council. She also was senior class president, a Girls State delegate and an All-State basketball selection.
The southeastern United States is home to a remarkable and diverse mammalian fauna that is a significant part of the region’s rich natural heritage. John Hunt, a Professor of Biology at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, has co-authored a book on these animals, entitled Mammals of the Southeastern United States. Giovanni Santos Andrade of Monticello, a 2020 graduate of Monticello High School, has accepted a Living the Dream Scholarship to attend South Arkansas Community College this fall.
The son of Maximo Santos Garcia and Veronica Andrade was a member of the art club and Spanish club in high school.
