Cattle1 The Desha/ Drew County Cattlemen’s Association met on Thursday February, 15 in the UAM Agriculture Building. The meeting began at 6:30 pm with the blessing of a delicious Barbecue supper with all the trimmings by President Jason Cater. A special thanks to Cater Veterinary Service for sponsoring the meal. City holds Eclipse Planning Meeting

The Mayors Office hosted an eclipse planning meeting Monday where local City and County officials, first responders, School Resource Officers and UAM staff discussed preparations for the upcoming April 8 Eclipse event.

The meeting coordinated and addressed all local vital services and potential issues locally that could occur, such as diminished cellular phone service that could occur due to the large number of people videoing the event statewide and the expected increase in traffic to and from the park of totality in Central Arkansas.

“We expect travelers passing through Monticello in route to the event and coming from the event. We want to make sure that we do our part to ensure increased traffic, anticipate increased purchases of fuel by those travelers and other areas that could affect our town are covered”. Two Car Crash at North Hyatt & 35 West

At 11:45, a.m., Tuesday morning, MPD, DCSO, and MASI responded to a two car collision at the intersection of N. Hyatt St. and Highway 35 W.

The two vehicles were a Hyundai Elantra and a Dodge Caliber.

The accident occurred when the southbound vehicle on old Highway 13, across from Hyatt Street, failed to yield and pull in front of the eastbound vehicle, on Highway 35.

Rangel and Rods Wrecker, removed the vehicles.
