The Drew County Sheriff’s Department is working on the annual sex offender notification letters to local churches, daycares and schools.

A Monticello man was released from jail, Thursday, after divers were unable to retrieve what was believed to be a stolen Ford SUV from the Saline River, due to water and rapid currents.


An East Jackson home, in the 1300 block, was struck by lightning Monday afternoon around 4 PM. It reportedly caused a gas stove to catch fire, along with the external damage shown by the door.
The Monticello Fire Department quickly responded, extinguished any leftover flames and make sure the residence was safe.

According to Drew County Judge Robert Akin, CODE RED reached an agreement late Thursday, with county officials, and signed a contract to provide electronic weather warnings for our residents.
Kelsey Lynn Windham,of Monticello, was crowned 2014 Miss Pink Tomato
on Sat evening in Warren. She also won evening gown competition & Miss Congeniality.
Kelsey is the 17 year old daughter of Teresa Duckworth & Darrell Windham.
She is a 2014 graduate of Monticello High School & will be attending UAM where she plans to pursue her degree in pharmacy.
The Armstrong Foundation recently made a $500 donation to the Southeast Arkansas Health Foundation.
Armstrong representatives Marty Reep, Amy Swanger, Sandra Barbara and Keith Van Dee presented the check to Southeast Arkansas Health Foundation Director, Stephanie Norris and Board Member Tom Wingard. The Southeast Arkansas Health Foundation supports Drew Memorial Hospital with the help of purchasing equipment.
At Tuesday’s special called Monticello school board meeting, board approved the next step in constructing a $760,976 turf for Hyatt field , a $516,680 technology building, and a $315,619 fieldhouse, also at Hyatt Field.
Although many residents may find the athletic improvements controversial, some of the intended benefits are discussed below.

The 19-year-old Monticello youth, charged in the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old Monticello man, received a $50,000 bond, Tuesday, on the charges of manslaughter, tampering with evidence, and aggravated assault (against another nearby person).

According to a statement from MPD, on June 1st, 2014 at approx. 6:17pm, Monticello Police received a call of a shooting incident at 537 Lincoln Court.



Recently law enforcement officers from around the state took part in the Special Olympics “Torch Run”.
Locally, the Drew County Sheriffs Department received the torch near the Ashley County line, from ACSO deputies; then ran it to Monticello (literally), where it was handed off to the Monticello Police, who ran it through their portion of the event, where the torch was taken to the next county.
Officers also carried the torch by Advantages, in support of many of our local athletes in the event.

County Detention Facility administrator Susan Potts presented this report to the quorum court at their recent meeting.
It describes the breakdown of detainees being housed at the jail, their classification, and who is responsible for paying for their costs.

A 20-year-old Monticello man was critically injured Sunday evening around 6:05, when he suffered a gunshot wound to the head.



At 1:45 Sunday afternoon, 3 occupants of this Cadillac Escalade were injured after the vehicle crashed into a power pole, before driving through the wall of the Monticello Textbooks Bookstore, on HWY 425, near UAM.

Monticello Kiwanis is kicking off our 3rd annual American Flag Display!
Flags are $30 and can be purchased from Union Bank, Commercial Bank, or any Kiwanis member.
Flags will be displayed on the square and the Drew County Courthouse lawn.
Late Friday afternoon, the Monticello Fire Department was paged out to a house fire in the 1700 section of Barkada road.

Although Hamburg is known for it’s Armadillo Festival, a pack of six armadillos was sighted on Tuesday, at a home on Monticello ‘a East Bolling Street.
The City Park Pool and Jordan Park Splash Pad will be open to the public, beginning Saturday.

Around 9 o’clock Friday morning, the driver of this Mercury Grand Marquis was heading east of Highway 35 East, with his family, as he lost control of the vehicle near the roads intersection with Old Dermott Road.
