Luminarias now available for Relay for Life

Persons wishing to honor or memorialize a loved one or friend who has suffered from cancer are reminded that luminarias may be purchased for the 15th Annual Relay for Life scheduled April 23rd & 24th. 

A minimum donation of $10 per Luminaria is requested. Checks may be made payable to the American Cancer Society and mailed to Kay Crook, 1008 Binns Drive, Monticello AR 71655. Please note name of person, honor or memory and name and address if you want an acknowledgement card sent to the family.

Relay for Life Shirts available from Shady Grove Team

The Shday Grove Relay for Life Team are selling Tee Shirts to help raise money for Relay for life. The teal shirt is $15 and only available in adult sizes.

The bright yellow shirt is $15 and it is availiable in youth and adult sizes. We also have a camo shirt for $20 arailable in youth and adult.

Drew Memorial Hospital Kicks off Efforts to Raise Funds for Relay for Life

Drew Memorial Hospital’s Relay for Life Team recently kicked off a Basket Raffle to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. “There are eleven baskets being raffled,” stated Memorie Dickson, Director of Foundation and Business Development. “There is something for everyone. Basket themes include spa packages, jewelry, birthday party items, gifts for coffee lovers and cooks, and aromatherapy items. There is even a romantic getaway package to Hot Springs, including lodging, meals and a deluxe bath package at Buck Staff Bath House valued at $375.”

Baskets are on display at the hospital. Tickets are just 50 cents each, and are available from Stephanie Norris in the DMH Administration office, and from Memorie Dickson and Katrina Hammock.

The drawing for the baskets will be held on April 2nd in conjunction with a hamburger cookout. Tickets for the cookout are $5 each, and include a hamburger, baked beans, french fries, a drink and all the trimmings. Free deliveries will be made to companies that order 10 or more lunches.

Entertainment Needed For 2010 Drew County Relay For Life

It is time again for the Drew County Relay for Life and volunteers are needed for entertainment.

The event is Friday, April 23 beginning at 6 pm and ending at 6 am on Saturday, April 24, at McCloy Park. The event needs entertainment for all night long. So, if you know of someone or you would like to volunteer for a time slot, please contact Kim Kendrick at 870-723-5038.

“Relay for Life” Kickoff Rally, Tonight at 5:30

The American Cancer society invites individuals who want to honor cancer survivors and caregivers or pay tribute to those who have lost their battle with cancer to join its Relay for Life Kick Off Rally on Januray 11, 2010 at 5:30 PM in the dining room of Pauline Baptist church.

This rally is where anyone – families, caregivers, cancer survivors, churches, schools, companies etc – get together to begin annual Relay for Life activities. The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is an overnight community celetration where individuals and teams camp out, play games and take turns walking around a track relay style to raise funds, while celebrating the lives of those who have had cancer, remembering those lost and fighting back against a disease that takes too much.

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life represents hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported and that one day cancer will be eliminated.

To join in the Drew County Relay for Life please come to the Kick Off if possible. If not please contact Sandra Norris or Curtis Larsen at 870-460-6400.

Relay for Life Committee Meeting- Tuesday at Noon. Volunteers Needed

Simmons Bank Collecting Used Cell Phones-Fundraiser for Relay for Life

Simmons Bank is collecting used cell phones as a fund raiser for the Relay for Life.

Collected phones will be sold to Cellular Recycler and proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society during the Relay.

Used cell phones may be dropped off by March 6, 2009 at Simmons Bank in Monticello, Simmons Bank, hte ATT Corporate Store, and Custom Wireless in Monticello.

“Cutest Kid Contest” Winner Announced

Commercial Bank recently sponsored “The Cutest Kid” contest, to support “Relay for Life”.

Friday was the last day of the contest, and the winner was announced.

Nick Chapman, the 7 month old son of Nathan and Melissa Chapman’s photo was chosen as the winner.

Nick’s photo showed him wearing a camouflage chef’s hat and bib.

Nick’s dad, the owner of Nates Place, has also been seen wearing camouflage, as he did while being a part of the winning team at last years Rough & Ready Days Chicken Cook Off.

Nick will received a trophy and a “goody bag” on Monday

Local Teens Donate Money for Relay for Life

Elizabeth Echols, Kylee Young and McKenzie Zieman celebrated their 13th birthday last Saturday with a formal dance.

The girls idea for the theme of the dance waS to raise money for the Relay for Life. Instead of a gift, each girl asked their friends to bring a donation for The Relay for Life, to support the American Cancer Society.

This donation is in memory of their friends’ Mom, India Pace who passed away last year with breast cancer. The amount that was collected was $851.00 This will be given during the Relay in April.

Special thanks to Carita Ryburn, Stephanie Wright, and each of the girls’ moms for the decorations, and Paul Griffin for spinning the records.  Photos at the event were taken by Laura McNeese.

The night was a BLAST !!!
