Drew County Clerk Nancy White confirmed that Bart Gregory was the first candidate to file on the first day of non-partisan municipal filings, for city offices.
Gregory filed as a candidate for Mayor of Monticello
The filing period began Monday, and will continue through May 23, at noon.
Offices available during this time include Mayor, City Council, city attorney, and city clerk.
The second candidate to file, yesterday, was incumbent city attorney Whit Barton.

Surveyors, contracted by McClellan Engineers, are in Monticello for the next couple of weeks, surveying Main Street for the upcoming water and sewer relocation project, that will take place before Main Street is overlaid and turned over to be a city street, instead of a state highway.
Please watch for them, and drive with caution.

Thursday, the SouthEast Arkansas Economic Development District heard and approved a presentation to establish a “waste to electricity” recycling facility in southeast Arkansas, specifically at the Chicot County landfill site, near Lake Village.
The facility can process 500 tons per day of everyday household trash, which will use a rotary kiln to create steam, which makes electricity. Recyclable metals, as shown in the article, passed through the system, and our recycled through appropriate channels. The leftover material from the process has several construction usages. (more…)

She told MLive, “It is with gratefulness that I tell you I will not run for another term as Mayor. I would not leave this office without making sure it was in good hands.
