An equipment failure has occurred in the Monticello East Substation and crews are working to backfeed power to most customers

Entergy expects power to be restored to most customers by early afternoon, although some sections may take longer.

Burkes Outlet opened earlier this week, and held their grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony, Thursday, in the former Stage location, in the North Park Shopping Center.

They carry a wide range of items in their women’s, men’s, kid’s, beauty, plus, junior’s, shoes, and home departments.

Burkes brought 30 jobs to Monticello with their new store opening.

A local businessman, Ralph Wells, has bought the collapsed building on S. Main St., demolished the remaining walls, and is building a business parking lot, there.

Mr. Wells told MLive, “It’s just my contribution to Monticello.”

The parking lot will access Church Street, by City Hall,  due to safety concerns from a possible Main Street exit.

is going to be a new oil change/car wash business, being built by Driven Brands Take 5 Oil Change, based out of South Carolina.

Thursday, the SouthEast Arkansas Economic Development District heard and approved a presentation to establish a “waste to electricity” recycling facility in southeast Arkansas, specifically at the Chicot County landfill site, near Lake Village.

The facility can process 500 tons per day of everyday household trash, which will use a rotary kiln to create steam, which makes electricity.  Recyclable metals, as shown in the article, passed through the system, and our recycled through appropriate channels. Last week, the University of Arkansas at Monticello received a $50,000 check from Union Bank & Trust Co. for UAM’s Performance Center Campaign (PCC). John McClendon, chairman of Union Bank, and Dave Dickson, president and CEO of Union Bank, presented the check to Dr. Peggy Doss, chancellor of UAM, Hud Jackson, director of athletics and head football coach at UAM, and Garrett May, director of major gifts and university initiatives at UAM, during a presentation on the university’s Monticello campus. The MEDC, Monday, approved selling 10 acres of land at the HWY 35 East Industrial Park to Stroker Diesel of Warren, which would enable them to move their business, with 5 current employees, to Monticello, with possible expansion of 20 additional employees in the near future. (more…)
