Drew Central / LifeShare Blood Drive-Thursday

February 18th, 2010 by Submitted

“LifeShare Blood Centers will hold a blood drive at Drew Central High School on Friday, February 19th from 9:30am until 2:00pm. The drive will be held in the multi-purpose room on the Southeast corner of the campus.

LifeShare will award a $500 scholarship to the school if it meets its annual blood drive goal of 125 units or a $750 scholarship if it meets an annual goal of 175 units. In a previous blood drive this year, DCHS collected 30 units of blood toward that goal on a day where school was let out at noon due to inclement weather. DCHS has one other drive scheduled this year on April 16th.

Parents are urged to come and help the students meet this goal by donating “the Gift of Life”. Parents and teachers will be worked ahead of the students in order that they may return to their jobs.”

National Blood Donor Month Begins

January 7th, 2010 by Submitted

LifeShare Blood Centers continues the annual celebration of National Blood Donor Month throughout January by thanking you for being a repeat blood donor and continuing to encourage others to give blood two or more times a year.

With the new year comes the opportunity to become a regular blood donor. We hope you will make a resolution to make donating blood a lifelong habit.

LifeShare thanks “YOU” the donor for the vital roll you play in allowing us to help maintain a safe and adequate blood supply to meet the daily needs of patients in hospitals within our communities. There is no better time than January during National Blood Donor Month for you to recruit others to become regular and repeat blood donors.

THANK YOU AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Fort Hood Shooting Victims – Request for O Negative Blood

November 6th, 2009 by Submitted

LifeShare Blood Centers is a member of an organization of community blood centers that shares blood resources in time of need. In response to yesterday’s shooting rampage that occurred at Fort Hood, 12 people killed and 31 injured, LifeShare Blood Centers has been contacted and asked to prepare to assist by providing O negative blood. However, at this time LifeShare has no excess of O negative blood.

O blood donors are universal donors and their blood is most often used during traumas. Therefore, it is often in short supply. Type O donors make up about 45% of the population.

O negative donors make up about 7% of the population.

If you are blood type O, you are a universal donor. We encourage all universal donors that are eligible to give blood to give now and often. Please contact your local LifeShare Blood Centers at 318/322-4445 or visit www.lifeshare.org and schedule your blood donation request online. Read the rest of this entry »

Blood Resoures Low, Especially During Summer Months

June 5th, 2009 by Submitted

026LifeShare Blood Services sponsors several blood draws around Monticello, in part because they provide all of the blood that is used at Drew Memorial Hospital.

Blood supplies usually seem to run slightly below the needed amount,  but that shortage always seems to increase during the warmer, summer months, when more people are taking part in outside activities.

Last week LifeShare sponsored a 2-day blood drive at Walmart, which provided 32 units; while Thursday’s efforts at Fred’s added approximately a dozen more, but still there is a need.

Plan to take part in next Thursday’s LifeShare blood draw, which will be held at Walmart, and “give the gift of life.”
