MDA’s Dance Competition team attended Talent On Parade Regionals in Texarkana, Texas this past weekend (February 14-16). MDA took 39 routines to this competition. Each routine is given an adjudication score of Double Diamond (highest), Diamond, or Elite Top First. There are Category Cup Winners across all levels (novice, intermediate, advanced) for the different genres (tap, jazz, lyrical, etc), and they can receive overall placements out of their age division/level.
The SEARK Concert Association announces its community theater presentation of The Sound of Music March 12-14, 2020 at the University of Arkansas at Monticello’s Fine Arts Center.
The musical, directed and choreographed by Kathy Lyon and Dalene Stephenson, involves two casts of more than 80 children and adults from across Southeast Arkansas. Local talent showcased in this production include Haley Greer of Monticello (playing Maria Rainer) as well as T.J. Files of Warren and Jeff Newton of Monticello (both playing Captain Georg von Trapp).

Mainline Health Systems recently was awarded a $54,677 grant from the Blue & You Foundation to purchase RetinaVue cameras for Mainline’s primary locations to increase the number of diabetic patients receiving diabetic retinal exams. (more…)
Drew County Democrats will meet at 6p.m. Monday, Feb. 17 at the courthouse
CashboX is back and ready to rock! After a seven-year hiatus, the band is back together and ready to kick off a reunion show where it all started.
The lineup will consist of Andrew Brannon on vocals, Jeremiah Payne on bass guitar, Michael Murphy on drums, Tyler Chambers on guitar, and Devin Horn on guitar.
The show will kick off at 8:00 at La Terraza Mexican Grill located at 306 US-425, Monticello, AR 71655. Admission is free, and all ages are welcome. Get there early as the show will be standing room only.
The 3rd graders at Drew Central Elementary School were taught a series of 6 lessons using the Kids In the Kitchen Curriculum.
They are showing off their pledge to Eat Smart and Be Active by wearing wrist bands!

Common Folk, made up of Duane Porterfield, Grace Stormont and Judd Steinbeck, from left, will be touring area schools this month and performing traditional American folk music for students as part of Seark Concert Association’s SMARTS (Students Majoring in the Arts) program.

Colonel David Love Chapter met Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Monticello Country Club for a brunch and presentation of DAR Good Citizens Awards to High School Seniors. The students were selected by their Counselors based upon their dependability, service, leadership and patriotism and were given the opportunity to write a patriotic essay to compete for a State DAR Scholarship.

Lifelong Southeast Arkansas resident Bill Dunklin has officially kicked off his run for State Senate in Senate District 26, which includes Ashley, Bradley, Chicot, and Drew counties and parts of Cleveland, Desha, and Lincoln counties.
Dunklin has been active in Republican political circles his entire life but is no establishment candidate. Dunklin believes the District needs a citizen State Senator who is already making Southeast Arkansas a better place to live. He believes Southeast Arkansas will benefit most by a State Senator who is experienced in making his own living, not one trying to make a living from being in Government. (more…)
