Walk Across Arkansas is back for its fall event September 13 – November 7.
The eight-week exercise program is organized each spring and fall by the Cooperative Extension Service, part of the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, with the goal of helping Arkansans improve their health. Participation is free, and registration opens August 30 online at walk.uada.edu.
Last spring, 798 Arkansans statewide participated in the Spring 2021 Walk Across Arkansas, logging 1,347,389 minutes. There were 201 participating teams across the state. Many of those participants reported they had more energy, slept better, controlled stress, strengthened relationships, lost weight or inches, and improved their blood panels and blood pressure.
The Travel Club will kick off a new Education First student tour on Tuesday, September 14 at 5:30 pm in the Drew Central auditorium. The tour will be 8 days in June 2023 and students will explore Italy. (more…)

The S.A.F.E. Center Inc. of Monticello announces receiving a $1000 donation from Simmons National Bank of Monticello. The S.A.F.E. Center, Inc. (Southeast Arkansas Financial Education Center) was founded by Clarissa Pace, a local resident who saw the need to enrich her community with information that may normally be costly to obtain. (more…)
Dailyn Noelle Johnston, of Brandon, MS, formerly of Monticello, as recently named to the University of Mississippi’s Spring 2021 Honor Roll lists.
Johnston was named to the Chancellor’s Honor Roll, which is reserved for students who earn a semester GPAof 3.75-4.00.
“Our students on the Chancellor’s Honor Roll are among the best and brightest at the University of Mississippi,” said Chancellor Glenn Boyce.

Commissioner of State Lands Tommy Land announced that his office will auction tax-delinquent land in Drew County on Thursday, August 5, at 10 a.m. The auction will be held at the Hampton Inn – Meeting Room in Monticello, with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. (more…)
