Baptist Health & Drew Memorial Meeting about Long Term Operation of DMH by Baptist – Video
February 28th, 2023 byIf this proposed long-term lease, likely for 25 years, takes place, it could begin as early as July 1, of this year.
Drew Memorial is owned by Drew County, and would continue to be.
The transaction also requires support of approximately 1/2% sales tax increase for the hospital by members of the current Drew Memorial board of directors.
A wide range of questions were asked by the board and hospital staff, and doctors, most of which were answered with either descriptions that were pleasing to most, or in some cases, “just look at our past history of how we’ve dealt with other local hospitals that have joined our system.”

I love the arrangement in our town. Baptist took over administration of our local hospital. Service at the hospital is great. One of the best features is that Baptist in Jackson or Baptist in Columbus can put orders in for test and pre-admission requirements and they can be done at our local hospital. Driving to either Jackson or Columbus would take the best part of a day. Driving 12 miles to the local hospital and being treated excellently is by far our best option. I know it would be hard not to see Drew Memorial Hospital on the sign would seem strange. The name of our hospital went from Montfort Jones Memorial to Baptist – Attala (our county).
