my dad was avetran and his name was george hughes. he was in the korean war as an m.p.
Just to let you know; the names that are read at the service are only those from Drew County who were killed in action. The names of those are the names engraved on the SACRIFICE WALL at the courthouse. The info I have is that, thankfully, no one from Drew County has been killed in battle since the Vietnam War.
It has been 43 years since I returned from Vietnam, and this was my first Memorial Day service I have attended. Five years ago I got a disabling illness and between that and the economy, I saw my life fall apart. Two years later my rrsources were depleted and I didn’t know where to turn. I went to the local Veterans office where I met Walter Chapman and he opened a hugh door for me with VA benefits. I have recieved a great deal of both medical and mental help. Due to that help I can now face my demons enough to come to a service such as this. Thank you VA, Thank you Walter and thank you Monticello. Iam a proud America Veteran
