2 Car, 1 Fire Hydrant Collision Sunday

November 30th, 2008 by Joe Burgess

Donna Harris was crossing North Main Street around noon Sunday, as she was traveling east on Oakland Street, when her 1995 GM model collided with the Cadillac sedan shown here.

Harris was charged with driving on a suspended license.

No one was injured in the accident, however, the Cadillac did leave the roadway and drove over a fire hydrant. It can be seen by clicking on the photo below.

The Monticello Police, Fire, and City crews were all called to the scene. Lock & Keys removed the Caddy from the fire hydrant.

The fire plug was installed on a “break-away” plug, so that it safely snapped off, instead of breaking the supply pipe, and showering the area.

Memories from the Museum–Thanksgiving Edition

November 27th, 2008 by Submitted

Thanksgiving has rolled around again. Although we have many reasons to give thanks we are often so caught up in “celebrations” that we can’t find time to truly “give thanks”. Thanksgiving, like every other holiday, seems to be turning into just another long vacation weekend when we hurry and scurry to “have a good time” as opposed to a day when we really do “count our blessings” and give thanks!
One very important, yet often overlooked, blessing truly is freedom and this great country, the United States of America.

This week I have a rather poignant recollection of a “last Thanksgiving”. It is an ever timely story about young men, the wars they fight and the remembrances they too often leave behind. Read the rest of this entry »
