2 Dumas Jailers Arrested for Smuggling Drugs into Jail

January 12th, 2017 by

According to Lt. Jason Akers of the 10th Drug Task Force, a joint investigation between multiple agencies has led to the arrest of two Desha county men.

Task Force Agents received information that drugs and other contraband were being smuggled in to the Dumas City Jail and began an investigation into the matter.

Through the course of the investigation, it was learned that two jail employees, one of which also served as an auxiliary police officer, were involved.

One suspect, identified as Bobby Kennedy, age 40, had engaged in sexual activity with female inmates while serving in his capacity as a jailer.

Working with Dumas Police, Agents also identified Phillip Derozier, age 24, a jailer, as a second suspect.

Agents obtained arrest warrants for both Derozier and Kennedy and both were arrested.

Derozier was charged with furnishing prohibited articles into a correctional facility and Kennedy was charged with delivery of a controlled substance (hydrocodone), Sexual Assault 3rd Degree and Furnishing Prohibited Articles into a correctional facility.

Derozier received a $10,000 bond, while Kennedy received a $50,000 bond.

Lt. Akers stated that the Task Force greatly appreciates the assistance of Dumas Police Chief Everett Cox for his assistance in the investigation. “Chief Cox was made aware at the onset of the investigation and provided invaluable assistance throughout the course of the case that enabled us to conduct a thorough, clear and complete investigation into this matter”.

Thank you for sharing with the public. I do live in Desha Co. but not originally for this area. I am from Little Rock, Ar. and surrounding area most of my life. I spent many years on weekends and weeks at a time camping and fishing and hunting in this area. So as you can imagine, I met quite a few people from this area thru those years. I also noticed a lot of things that were not just completely legal with others. Then when I built a home where I am, I sure noticed everyday things out of control with a lot of people in the same area that I live. I am familiar with some in Law Enforcement and I have formed my own opinion good or bad. That is just the way human nature is with people. The bad apples don’t fall far from the tree. Flocks of a feather band together. I’m sure everyone has heard these sayings. They are true. It does make it look bad for Law Enforcement that has the rotten to the core ones. It takes the GOOD COPS to weed the rotten ones out. When the other good cops don’t try to do anything, it also makes them look suspicious to others including me. I appreciate the rotten ones getting put where they need to be. That is why all of these good cops are getting killed everywhere. I have seen more illegal crimes going in Desha Co., Ar. Co. and all along the eastern counties and know of other criminals in Ar. Thank God there are people that want these criminals put where they deserve to be. There should be a lot of others that feel the same way. Most of the time they are afraid of their lives being threatened or their family put in danger. I have never been afraid of this because I don’t keep my mouth shut to heathens and my loved ones know how to take care of those kinds of idiots. Good work Drug Task Force. If I can ever help you, let me know. You are a bunch of good men and women helping others even when no one knows you are around. To you and others, I thank you. By the way, there are other rotten ones around that need to be brought down to their level and kept down!!! Thank you again for doing what you do.
