The Desha/Drew County Cattlemen’s Association met on Thursday November, 20 at the UAM Agriculture Building at 7:00 pm. The meatloaf supper was sponsored by Preferred Livestock Products and blessed by President Jason Cater. Desserts were provided by the membership.
Mike Runner and John Armstrong with Preferred Livestock Products spoke to producers about the business’s background and ownership. The company offers a selection of cooked tub options. The products contain energy, protein, and minerals to supplement the cow herd year round. Mr. Runner gave members a presentation that went over the benefits of proper nutritional management and how Preferred Livestock Products is here to help accomplish that. Mr. Armstrong is the Representative for Desha and Drew counties as well as the surrounding area. He gave first hand experience of what using the tubs from Preferred Livestock Products did for his cattle and his operation. He found that he was able to increase his conception rates and keep his cows healthier year round. They were also able to answer questions producers had about the tubs.
Following the speakers the membership decided to change the meeting time to 6:30 pm. It was also decided to put on the annual finger food supper for the December meeting. The meeting was then adjourned by President Cater.

The University of Arkansas at Monticello College of Technology–McGehee (UAM-CTM) and the UAM Adult Education Center will launch the UAM Digital Literacy Program in January as part of the “3 Southern States Connected Communities Program,” a regional effort led by Digitunity and AT&T to expand computer access and digital skills training.
The program launch will be held on January 21 at 11 a.m. on the UAM-CTM campus. Several special guests will be in attendance, including representatives from Digitunity, AT&T and Congressman Bruce Westerman’s office, local mayors, Chamber of Commerce directors and other dignitaries. The event is free and open to the public.
Through the program, students who complete WAGE I and WAGE II employability courses will receive a refurbished laptop, and students in the Business Office Technology and Health Information Technology programs at UAM-CTM may check out laptops for use during their studies and keep them after graduation. All participants will complete a digital literacy workshop on basic computer use, online safety and internet skills.

On October 7, 2025, a Drew County jury convicted Terry Laron Gragg Jr., of Monticello, of Delivery of more than 10 grams of Methamphetamine, following a jury trial.
The conviction stems from a controlled drug buy conducted on February 4, 2025, by agents of the Tenth Judicial District Drug Task Force. Agents James Slaughter, Ben Michel, and Tad Huntsman met with a confidential informant at an undisclosed location in Drew County. After confirming the informant had no drugs or money, agents provided him with $200 in cash and undercover cameras. The informant went directly to Gragg’s residence, where he purchased 28 grams of methamphetamine.
