Although we don’t have a calendar, we do want to remind everyone that road maintenance and shoulder work is taking place around the main intersection in town, at 425 and 278.
Work is being, or has been done in all directions.
This usually reduces traffic to one lane.
The city of Monticello’s trash truck is down, so trash will be slower today and since it will be by hand, only bagged trash will be collected and the cart may not be completely emptied.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
Around 10:30 AM, Friday, Monticello firefighters, along with OEM and Drew County deputies were notified of a chip truck rollover at the Tillar turnoff, Highway 277/278.
Two patients were transported to the hospital, from the single vehicle accident, which took approximately four hours to clean up the crash site.
Minutes before 9 AM, the driver of a Chevrolet Z 71 was northbound on Highway 425 south, south of Patriot truckstop, when he lost control of his vehicle and veered off the right shoulder.
The truck struck a driveway, became airborne, and flipped, into the northbound ditch, coming to rest upside down.
MPD, DCSO, ASP, OEM, fire & rescue, and SEEMS responded to the crash scene.
The driver was transported to Baptist Health, Drew County.
Reggie’s Wrecker removed the Chevy.
On July 15, 2023, law enforcement officers from the Desha County Sheriff’s Department, the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism, and the Arkansas State Police responded to a 911 call where the body of 57-year-old James Petty was found in the middle of Delta Queen Rd. in Arkansas City. On June 19, 2024, at approximately 12:09 a.m., Warren Police Officers were dispatched to a residence on Cherry St. in reference to an armed home invasion.
Upon their arrival they were told by a resident that individuals entered their home with guns. The individuals were gone upon officers’ arrival. Read the rest of this entry »
