New UAM Pledge Program to Enhance Higher Education Accessibility for Arkansas Residents

January 29th, 2025 by

UAMPledgeThe University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) has announced the launch of the UAM Pledge, an innovative program dedicated to making higher education more accessible for residents of Arkansas.

The program, set to begin in the fall 2025 semester, is designed to bridge the financial gap for eligible first-time, full-time freshmen, allowing them to pursue their college education with greater confidence and less financial burden.

The UAM Pledge will cover the difference between the total cost of tuition, mandatory fees and course-specific fees and the total financial aid received, including the Pell Grant, Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship and merit-based scholarships. The program is an investment in the future success of UAM students, demonstrating the university’s dedication to providing quality education without the weight of unmanageable costs.“This program embodies our commitment to removing financial barriers for students in Arkansas,” said Dr. Peggy Doss, chancellor of UAM. “We recognize the challenges many students face when pursuing their educational goals. With the UAM Pledge, we aim to provide essential support that empowers students to focus on their studies and thrive during their college experience. Ultimately, this initiative will help Arkansas meet its workforce development needs by ensuring that a well-educated population is prepared to make valuable contributions to our state’s economy.”

To be eligible for the UAM Pledge, students must meet several criteria. They must be Arkansas residents and U.S. citizens, first-time and full-time freshmen entering the fall 2025 semester and recipients of both the Pell Grant and the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship, along with a merit-based scholarship from UAM. Maintaining these awards each semester is required for continued eligibility for the program.

The UAM Pledge boasts several key features designed to support students. It covers tuition and mandatory fees that other financial aid does not address, ensuring that financial barriers are minimized. Eligible students can receive the award for up to eight consecutive semesters, providing them with a reliable source of funding throughout their studies. Additionally, the program offers a clear and straightforward eligibility process, making it easy for all applicants to understand the requirements they need to meet.

“The UAM Pledge is not just a financial aid program; it is a pathway to opportunity and success for our students,” Dr. Doss added. “By alleviating financial concerns, we believe students will be able to engage fully in their academic pursuits, foster a stronger connection to campus life and enrich their personal development during their time at UAM.”
