UAM named 271 students to the Dean’s List and 206 students to the Chancellor’s List for the spring 2024 semester, according to Keith Chambliss, UAM’s registrar.
Selection to the Dean’s List requires a student to earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on at least 12 semester hours of course credit at the 1000-4000 level. Selection to the Chancellor’s List requires a student to earn a grade point average of 4.0 on at least 12 semester hours of course credit at the 1000-4000 level.

The Division of Music at the University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) will host three band camps, a jazz camp and an auxiliary camp on UAM’s campus this summer for sixth to twelfth grade students. Students can choose to stay on campus or off campus during their camp. (more…)

This week, UAM Baseball has been putting on stellar performances in the GAC Championship. Because the team’s game on Friday would coincide with UAM commencement ceremonies and UAM Baseball’s seniors would be unable to walk at commencement, UAM took commencement to them.
On Thursday, Dr. Peggy Doss, chancellor of UAM, and Crystal Halley, vice chancellor of Academic Affairs, traveled to Little Rock to deliver the diplomas to seniors during a special on-field ceremony. Congratulations to our graduates and our incredible baseball team!

The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) has approved the University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) for funding to continue as a Special Education Resource Teacher Academy during the 2024-2025 academic year.
UAM was initially approved as a Special Education Resource Teacher Academy after receiving a grant for the 2022-2023 academic year as the result of a grant proposal submitted on behalf of the UAM School of Education by Dr. Kim Level, dean of the UAM School of Education, and Deborah Givhan, special education coordinator and instructor in the UAM School of Education. In 2023, UAM received funding to continue the program in the 2023-2024 academic year.

The University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) will hold its spring commencement exercises on Friday, May 10, in the Steelman Field House. Commencement will be split into two ceremonies at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Doors will open at 9 a.m. for the 10 a.m. ceremony and 1 p.m. for the 2 p.m. ceremony. The University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) will launch the Weevil Jumpstart Program for first-time freshmen in July 2024. Eligible students who enroll in six credit hours during Summer Session II will receive a full campus housing scholarship through the program. Classes will run from July 1 through July 31. (more…)

Two University of Arkansas at Monticello students recently received honors in the annual Poets’ Roundtable of Arkansas Pat Laster Collegiate Poetry Contest. Jordan Self, a senior education major from Monticello, Arkansas, won first place with her poem “White Paint.” Mercedes McCool, a senior communication major from Bastrop, Louisiana, received an honorable mention for her poem “Jonesing.” (more…)

The Student Nurses Association (SNA) at the University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) recently donated care packages valued at over $1,000 to the United States military troops through the Support Our Troops organization.
SNA, consisting of current students in the UAM School of Nursing, gifted snacks, personal hygiene products and more.
Ashlynn Baker, president of SNA at UAM, stated, “SNA’s goal was to enhance the morale and well-being of the deployed troops through items specifically requested by them. In each box, we also attached handwritten letters thanking troops for their service and sacrifices, along with printed and signed pictures of each of our members. We hoped to have brightened the soldiers’ day.” (more…)

The funds will support adding LED lights to UAM Baseball’s Weevils Field and UAM Softball’s Alvy Early Softball Field. This will mark the first time the fields have had lights, allowing the baseball and softball teams to host night games. (more…)

Angelia, Bennie III, Margaret Anne, Marion and Ray Ryburn have gifted $125,000 to support the UAM Fund and the UAM Athletics Legacy Campaign at the University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM).
In 2020, the Ryburn family established the UAM Fund to provide financial support for operational expenses, capital projects, equipment needs and academic instruction at UAM. (more…)

Dan Boice, director of Library at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, is the author of a new book on Arkansas place names, “Naming Arkansas: Curious Place Names from Greasy Corner to Sock City,” published by the History Press imprint at Arcadia Publishing.
Arranged by such topics as railroad names, natural features, religious factors, famous people and “names that are just interesting,” the book is the product of Boice’s fascination with Arkansas history and place names. (more…)

The University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) has received a gift of $1.3 million to establish the Jonathan Hartley Endowed Scholarship for Forestry. The gift comes from the estate of Andrea Stanley Hartley, mother of the late Jonathan Isaac Hartley, and is the third-largest single gift in the university’s history. Scholarships will benefit undergraduate and graduate forestry students in the College of Forestry, Agriculture and Natural Resources (CFANR) at UAM. (more…)
