Joe Rogers has announced his candidacy for mayor of Monticello as an independent candidate in the special election and the general election. Rogers is a native of Drew County and a resident of Monticello for 50 years. He has been the manager of his family owned business; Rogers Men’s Wear, for 32 years and served a four year term as Mayor of Monticello from 2007 through 2010.

The Drew County Republican Party unanimously selected Dave Nugent as its candidate in the upcoming special election for mayor of Monticello.

He is a seventh generation Arkansan and has lived in Monticello all his life.

Sam Wherry , a local business analyst and Bishop, has informed MonticelloLive that he will not seek to run in the election for the position of interim mayor .
While not seeking the interim term, Wherry is still considering a run for the four-year term , which will take place in the November election .
During the severe thunderstorm and Drew County late Friday afternoon, this large tree on Lacey – New Hope Road fell on a C&L powerline, causing the treetop to catch fire.
Drew County Sheriff Deputies responded, as did the power company. There were no estimates as to how long power would be disrupted.
