Discovery Children’s Center would like to say a big THANK YOU to Staff Sergeant Joseph Bivens for stopping by and reading to us for Veteran’s Day.
Some of the consumers from the Discovery Skills Center volunteered some of their time recently to support Boots & Badges for Special Olympics.
Tuesday afternoon, shortly before 1 o’clock, a 4 vehicle accident occurred on highway 278 East, approximately 5 miles out of Monticello.

Caroline Adair was crowned 2014 Miss Buck Fever at this Saturday during the annual Buck Fever Festival in Banks.
Caroline is the 16 year old daughter of Dale & Misty Jones and William Adair of Monticello.
She was crowned by Kelsey Windham, pictured left, 2013 Miss Buck Fever.
Marie not only finished the half marathon. She was first in her age group.
She had a great time. And all I can say is I’m proud of her. Great job!!!!

Discovery Children’s Center would like to say Thank You to the Monticello Fire Department for visiting our center and teaching us about the fire trucks as part of our Fire Safety unit.
Discovery Children’s Center had a trike a thon for St. Jude.

Thank you to the voters of Drew and Ashley counties for your tremendous and gratifying support in the November general election! I am honored and humbled by your faith in me. Last Tuesday, candidate for governor, Congressman Mike Ross visited UAM.
The purpose of his visit was described as “old buildings and new buildings”, as he took a tour of the 50 year old Science Center, which also now houses is the mathematics department.
While on campus, Ross also took a tour of the new Forestry Resources Annex.
Tim Griffin, a candidate for Lt. Governor, was in Monticello, Wednesday.
Griffin is shown visiting with friends at Panarama Restaurant.
Several Democratic candidates attended a “get out the vote” rally, in late October, at the Sadie Johnson Center.
The event was filled with brief speeches, encouraging voters to work to get their friends and relatives to take part in the election.
Some of those present included: Sens. David and Mark Pryor, congressional candidate James Lee Witt, and current state representatives Mike Holcomb and Sheilla Lampkin.

I did not realize Frank Jackson was still writing columns for the local newspaper. I guess I have over looked them in the past.
During the early morning hours of October 21, the Drew County Sheriff’s Office, Monticello Fire Department and other first responders were dispatched to 134 Jose Chapel Cutoff Rd. in reference to a house fire.
During Drew Central’s annual Fall Festival, Monday night, a 12-year-old student fell off of a hayride trailer, and then was run over by the trailer.
