Bob Barnes has moved back to Monticello, since his wife passed away, and will be working at Salon Hello Beautiful (606 W.Bolling St.), just down the block from his former shop.

Monday morning, around 5:30 AM, the Collins-Cominto fire department responded to a combine fire, near Baxter. The combine was destroyed.
Tuesday, the Tillar fire department was dispatched to a car fire, on HWY 277 near the intersection of HWY 278. Drew County sheriffs deputies also responded.
Thursday morning, around 7:30 AM, the Monticello fire department responded to a house fire in the 200 block of E. Shelton St. The damage was reportedly contain to the back area of the house. No one was injured in the fire.
Once again, our appreciation goes out to our firefighters, across the county, for their dedication to protecting Drew County citizens, and our property.

USAF Col. L. R. Hughes has been a Monticello resident since January, and is the husband of UAM Chancellor Dr. Karla Hughes.

Monday there was a hearing at the County Courthouse, questioning the legality of the 15 proposed initiatives & reverendums that had received signatures, to be decided by local voters, at the general election, November 8.
A group of local business and community leaders had filed a lawsuit to question the legality of each of the proposed issues, which was to be decided by Circuit Judge Don Clover. The defendants were listed as the county and city clerks, and the county election commission.

A 29 year old man, who recently moved here from California, received a 35 year prison sentence from a Drew County jury, Tuesday.
