According to Monticello Police Chief Jason Akers, MPD recently received notice that City of Monticello was approved for a grant of $48,500 through the Arkansas Highway Safety Office, to be used for salary purposes for MPD’s participation in traffic safety mobilizations.
MPD aggressively and actively pursues all grant opportunities for both equipment and funds that may be utilized to decrease the amount of local funding the police department receives.
In addition to this grant, MPD has received grant funds in 2022 for uniforms and the replacement of all of MPD’s body worn cameras for officers.
According to Monticello Police Chief Jason Akers, MPD is investigating a single vehicle accident that occurred early Friday morning, where a truck left a city street and struck a home. (more…)

On Wednesday August 10th, at approximately 10:13 A.M., Sheriff Mark Gober received a call from a Drug Task Force agent that had attempted to make a traffic stop on Jerry Brooks, who had outstanding warrants at the time.
