On Tuesday of last week, Monticello firefighters, battled the blaze at 1:07 PM in the ice and snow at the intersection of Babin Drive and Bowser Road.

After initial assessment, an attempt to roof vent was made but the fire contained in the attic had spread too rapidly. Two firemen safely evacuated the roof before it collapsed in. No injuries reported.

The structure received major damage.

Firefighters were red, dispatched to the same later that afternoon, after the fire rekindled.

Sunday morning, shortly before 9 AM, Monticello firefighters responded to a vehicle fire on Gaines St. The fire was extinguished with no injuries reported.

At 11:15 PM on New Year’s Eve, firefighters were dispatched to a home on Rebecca Circle for a fire inside of a carport.

The fire was contained to the carport and burned one vehicle inside.

Before the fire, residents had shot fireworks, picked up the trash, believing everything to be safe, and put the bag on the carport.

Later they realize their car and carport were on fire and called for firefighters.

According to sources, around 12:30, Tuesday afternoon, a landowner was burning off a field and the fire quickly spread into a nearby wooded area on Pleasant Springs Road.

Tillar firefighters, and Drew County OEM responded and battled the blaze for approximately two hours, before having it controlled.

A local man lost his life in a home fire, at approximately 2:20 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Monticello firefighters and Drew County deputies were dispatched and found the home fully engulfed upon their arrival.

After the fire was knocked down, Search & Rescue located one fatality inside the structure.

The exact cause of the fire is undetermined. The fire is believed to have originated inside the house and no foul play is suspected.

Saturday, shortly after 6 PM, Monticello Firefighters were dispatched to a house fire on Jose Chapel Cut Off Road, which was fully engulfed upon their arrival.

The home was a total loss, and no injuries were reported.

On Tuesday evening, August 29, county judge Jessie Griffin, issued a burn ban for all of Drew County.

At 3 AM, Sunday morning, Monticello Firefighters, responded to a mobile home fire on Godbold Street, near the intersection with Cooper.

After extinguishing the fire, mainly contained to the north end of the trailer, they returned back to the station.

Minutes before 10 AM, they were again paged out to the same trailer, this time for a fire on the south end of the structure, which had rekindled.

Friday morning, at a couple minutes before 8 AM, the Monticello fire department was paged out to a residential house fire, contained in the attic, on Elm Court, just off of N. Hyatt St.

Damage was limited and the fire was quickly extinguished. No injuries were reported.

A Sanderlin Road residence was fully engulfed in flames after the Clear Creek fire department was paged out at 10:22 PM on Sunday night.

Drew County Sheriffs Deputies and OEM also responded.

MFD was dispatched to an apartment fire at The Vineyards, on Midway Route at 4:16 pm, Friday.

When firefighters arrived, they found that the sprinkler system had extinguished a small kitchen fire, leaving damage apparently only to the kitchen area. No injuries were reported.

MFD was dispatched to a fully engulfed vehicle fire at Shady Grove, AME Church, on Hwy 138, Saturday at 9:04 pm. Engine 1 responded. No injuries reported.

At 3 AM, Wednesday morning, Monticello, Firefighters, and Drew County deputies were dispatched to the 700 block of Bowser Road, just south of UAM, for a house fire, causing severe damage to the living room and kitchen area.

An occupant of the home was present when the fire started, and received burns. He was transported to a Drew Memorial by SEEMS, and then transported to Little Rock by MASI.

At 6:45, later that morning, the fire, rekindled, and firefighters again responded.

The home was totally destroyed.

The Monticello fire department was dispatched to an 18 wheeler fire at 6:50 PM, Tuesday evening.

No injuries were reported as the driver was about to enter a local mill. The cab of the truck was fully engulfed, upon MFD‘s arrival.

DCSO and OEM also responded.

Minutes after 8 PM, Thursday night, Monticello, Firefighters, along with MPD and DCSO officers responded to the report of a “generator fire“ at the county detention facility (jail).

Upon their arrival, the generator was running, but an automatic transfer switch was found to be the cause of the smoke.

All inmates were safe and secure during the event.

The Collins / Cominto Fire Department is proud to announce that they are going from a ISO class 9 rating to a class 6 effective April 1st.

This means lower homeowners insurance rates for members within 5 road miles of either of the department’s 2 stations.

They’re all-volunteer staff was able to achieve this accomplishment by additional training, adding tankers to transport water to fires, adding ponds for draft points to fill tankers, and having a mutual aid program with Dermott’s fire department.

The 60-year-old man, who is suspected in the arson of the business, has passed away from burns and injuries, sustained in the fire. (more…)
