Drew County Clerk Nancy White confirmed that Bart Gregory was the first candidate to file on the first day of non-partisan municipal filings, for city offices.

Gregory filed as a candidate for Mayor of Monticello

The filing period began Monday, and will continue through May 23, at noon.

Offices available during this time include Mayor, City Council, city attorney, and city clerk.

The second candidate to file, yesterday, was incumbent city attorney Whit Barton.

Political ad paid for by the committee to reelect Judge Robert Akin.

Lt. Governor Tim Griffin and State Senator Ben Gilmore endorsed Drew County Judge Robert Akin for re-electin. (more…)

Akers has been in public service as a law enforcement officer for over 28 years, where he currently serves as Chief of Police in Monticello.

While at Monticello PD, Chief Akers has led with a proactive and progressive approach. Akers implemented the Department’s first policy and procedure manual, written/skills testing for hiring and promotions to ensure fairness and led Monticello to having one of the few state accredited police departments. Keith Wells of Monticello is seeking re-election to the Monticello School District, school board, zone 2. Wells stated, “I have served the children of Monticello, their parents, and this community for 12 years. It is my intention to continue because there is a lot more work to get done.” Wells stated that he was instrumental is passing three millages of which will be used to erect a new Monticello Billie gym.
