There will be a special called meeting of the Monticello City Council, tonight at 6 PM,  to consider passing on to city voters, a 1/4 cent sales tax issue, designed to build a 3,000 seat event center, which was declined to be put on the ballot, last Monday, by the DrewCounty Quorum Court.

Money raised by this project will be given to a city employee, who ,is expcted to be off work for 6 months, for medical  expenses, due to a serious illness.

Mayor Zack Tucker summarozes the recent alchohol time service changes, approved at the last City Council meeting, and upcoming events to the MEDC board and guests.

The event was held at the UAM Library, and was sponsored by the Chamber of Comerce.

Due to technical difficulties, the narration of the video did not sustain its quality through production.

The excercie was planned to train Monticello Fire Dept. personell to perform “rope rescues” for trapped fictims, whether it be from outside a building, or inside of an industrial site.

A well-needed, somewhat-heated discussion developed, Tuesday night, from a boring topic, dealing with water meter deposits for multi-unit complexes.

The long-time question of home/businesses getting commercial bills was brought up by councilman Joe Meeds, and will get studied and clarified in the near future.

As whatever is going to happen, Saturday draws near,  local residents are agreeing that it doesn’t belong in Drew County, and not taking sides about who is right.

SIEMENS INDUSTRY, INC. vs. CITY OF MONTICELLO vs. SIEMENS A.G.

Listed here are the primary focal points of the CITY OF MONTICELLO’S ANSWER TO THE FIRST AMENDED COMPLAINT AND COUNTERCLAIM AND ADDITION OF COUNTER-DEFENDANT, as submitted to the US District Court, in response to SEIMENS recent federal lawsuit against the The City of Monticello, the city’s special attorney, Cliff Gibson, has answered SIEMENS’ lawsuit against the city.

Last Tuesday, Siemens and the City of Monticello met in Little Rock in an attempt to mediate hte situation, to avoid a lawsuit, by reaching a compromise.

It appears that on the way out of town, Siemens filed that lawsuit in the U.S. Eastern District Curt.

A Public Involvement Meeting will be held on Thursday, April 30th from 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m at the MEDC office.

The format of the meeting will be come and go. Outcomes from the 2007 Strategic Plan will be shared and participants will be asked to share opinions of the 2007 outcomes as well as give input on goals and objectives for the 2015 plan.
