According to Monticello Mayor Jason Akers, the City is in the process of improving water delivery  on multiple city streets including Oakland, North Main, Allen and Chester and Wood Streets by looping dead end lines into the delivery system. 

Dead end water lines cause multiple issues, from heavy chlorine taste to off-colored water that can stain clothes when washed. 

The Mayor tasked city water quality staff with identifying these dead end lines and looping those  lines in to other existing and circulating lines.

“In areas were we have looped the dead end lines in to other existing lines, we are getting reports from citizens of improved taste, smell, color and a significant increase in water pressure.” 

These photos are on Oakland near Main Street, where Tuesday city crews successfully identified and looped residential lines. 

“In many areas it’s not the quality of the lines as often thought. In some areas it’s the design of our water system itself that’s the issue. Our public works crews are doing a good job at addressing that and making a significant impact.”

According to Monticello Mayor Jason Akers, city crews are treating city streets today in preparation for the potential inclement weather.

Crews are first treating known problem areas during icy weather and then will treat lesser traveled streets in neighborhoods. 

The inclement weather preparedness capability was instituted by the City this year and enables the city to hopefully reduce the effects of sleet and ice on city streets as well as plow icy or snowy areas that may need it.
