Monticello Public Works crews continue to work to improve storm drainage runoff. One of this weeks projects is in the area of East Jackson and Watts Streets. City Crews located a clogged culvert that impeded storm water runoff and  caused water to often rise over Jackson Street and cover the road. The flooding of yards of nearby residents has occurred repeatedly over the years.

Crews widened and deepened the overgrown ditch to its original width and depth and will continue to work to improve the flow through to Watts Street, where the water can drain more efficiently.

According to Monticello Mayor Jason Akers, a flood mitigation grant applied for in May of this year by the Mayor’s Office was awarded this week to the City of Monticello by the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management. (more…)

At 5:45 AM, this morning, a Drew County deputy pulled over a concrete truck, who was spilling part of his load on Highway 425 N., between Sonic and Walmart.

ARDOT has been notified and hopefully will be able to clean up the mess.

Please drive with caution, especially in this area.

We have been asked to point out that Select Concrete was not involved in the incident.

ARDOT cleanup took place prior to 8 AM.
