One of the most confusing areas of Monticello Traffic, aside from the town Square, is E. Gaines St.
When you leave the Square, on E. Gaines St., it is one-lane traffic, with parking spaces on both sides of the street.
When it crosses, Gabbert Street, at the chamber of commerce, THEN it becomes a two-lane highway, without parking places.
The City of Monticello wants to remind residents that the Conrad Street Water Tower repairs and improvements are still underway and on schedule.
Residents near the tower may see water misting from the tower where it is being pressure washed and crews scaling the exterior of the structure. Access to Conrad Street is limited during the project. (more…)
Reports indicate a Water main break, east side of town, effecting Drew Foam to Hood Packaging area
Options Domestic Violence Shelter helps countless victims of domestic violence every year and they are doing a fantastic job. They need YOUR help with donations and MONTICELLO needs your help in keeping our town square clean.
PLEASE stop dropping donations off after hours or on weekends where they are left out and pilfered, rained on and strewn around businesses. It’s only making the work HARDER for volunteers at Options and it’s making our town square – which is a representation and the focal point of our community often look like a garbage heap.
Drop off days and times are as follows:
Monday-Wednesday 9am-4:30pm.
Thursday & Friday 10:30-4:30 and the first Saturday of every month.
We can do better. Let’s keep supporting Options and keep our town keep moving forward!
Mayor Jason Akers
Options Director Dana Carpenter

According to Monticello Mayor Jason Akers, another infrastructure repair project is set to begin on October 30.
Work on the Conrad Street water tower will begin, where the overflow system of the tank will be modified to be in compliance with newer Department of Health standards for water storage tanks.
The modifications will be performed and the tank will then be cleaned and painted.
City Water Operators have already placed door placards to make nearby residents and businesses aware that once the painting of the outside of the tank begins, there is a slight chance of overspray should unpredictable winds occur. A small section of Conrad Street will most likely be closed off during some of the process.
In an effort to promote Monticello and UAM, the Mayors office offered for UAM to place a logo on the tank, which is visible from Highway 425. The University leadership enthusiastically accepted and the University created a design for the tank.
“We are proud of our University and we want everyone to know that when they drive through our town. UAM is a part of who we are as a community and we intend to show that”
According to Mayor Jason Akers, this is in the area of Conley and Pauline Streets. Street and drainage crews have worked to open up clogged and overgrown sections of Godfrey Creek that were causing water to get over roadways during heavy rains.
In this section, crews removed countless railroad crossties and other debris and restored the ditch’s depth and width to a proper level to ensure that water flows properly. The ditch will be lined with repurposed concrete to slow or prevent future erosion of the ditch banks
According to Monticello Mayor Jason Akers, the Arkansas Department of Corrections will again be working in Monticello this week.
Inmates will be working in various areas throughout town. They will trim back grass that has grown over the edges of city streets as well as clean overgrowth, debris and weeds from sidewalks and other areas.
The only cost of the service is providing meals to the inmates and guards. The Mayor’s office provides those meals from the Senior Citizens Center.
The City of Monticello appreciates the staff of the Department of Corrections for their efforts in making Monticello better.
