Students from Monticello Dance Academy recently competed at the regional VIP Dance Competition in Little Rock, bringing home numerous awards.

Drew County Extension Agent Hazelene McCray earned her master degree in Workforce Development from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She participated in the commencement on December 15, 2012.
She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas in Monticello.
Hazelene is married to James L. McCray Sr. They have two sons and seven grandchildren
Peggy Brooks has announced the publication of her debut novel, The Stories My Children Didn’t Want to Hear.
Peggy, writing under her maiden name of Peggy J. Henry Brooks, has lived most of her 74 years of life in Southeast Arkansas and has recently had the first volume of her lifelong stories, self-published by Lulu, and says “This first volume is dedicated to my kids because this would not have been possible had they not tired of hearing my stories over and over again.”
The American LegionPost #2, in McCloy Park, is sponsoring a dance Friday night from 7:30 p.m. ’til, with a variety of music by the “Hwy 13 Band: featuring: Andy & Terrie Briant, Eric Davis, David English & Joe Carmine.

10th Jjudicial District Circuit Judge Kenny Johnson has been appointed to the Arkansas Supreme Court’s child support committee for a four-year term.
The committee issues recommendations to the court regarding child support issues in the state.
The winners of the Advantages’ Gun Raffle were Danielle Atwood of Monticello, AR won the Remington 270, and David Doss won the $100.00 gas card.

Southeast Arkansas Community Action Corporation will begin taking applications for the FY’2013 LI-HEAP Winter Regular Assistance Program on January 07, 2013 thru March 30, 2013 or until funds are depleted. The program is designed to assist low-income households with home energy related emergency situations. The following information is needed to determine eligibility:

“Six Figures” a screenplay written by Regina Junior, a native of Monticello, has been selected by the HBFF Storyteller Screening Committee as a semi-finalist in the 2012 Hollywood Black Film Festival. As a finalist, Ms. Junior will receive a complimentary all-access pass to attend Hollywood Black Film Festival 2012 which runs October 25-28 in Hollywood, CA
Ms. Junior is the daughter of Horace and Mary Junior of Lacey, Arkansas and currently resides in Crossett, AR.
At the recent Southeast Arkansas TEA Party’s Second Amendment Sportsman’s Rally in Monticello, two winners were drawn at random from hundreds of entries for a chance to win a gun.
The winner of a Marlin SL7 rifle was Mr. Marcus Rucks of Monroe, Louisiana. Mr. James Jenkins of Lake Village, Arkansas was the winner of a youth model Mossberg Shotgun. The Southeast Arkansas TEA Party wishes to thank everyone who attended and participated in the rally.

Edward Hunter, Jr. completed basic military training for the United States Air Force on August 24, 2012 at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio Texas. As a member of the 326 TRS FLT 545 of the 737th Training Group, he completed training with a rank of E3 Airman First Class.
Hunter is a 2011 graduate of Drew Central High School and a native of Wilmar Arkansas. His parents are Edward and Sasha Hunter of Wilmar; grandparents are James and Alice Hunter, Erma Jones and the late Hubert Smith all of Wilmar.
Hunter will continue technical training at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls Texas where he will receive training as an aircraft mechanic.
