servsafe-logo-1_1_origThe Arkansas Department of Health “Rules Pertaining to Food Establishments,” effective September 7, 2019 indicates that any establishment serving food will be required to have “at least one supervisory employee who has Certified Food Manager training,” to ensure that someone with food safety knowledge is employed at every facility. Food establishments have already been made aware that they are required to receive said training by September 7, 2020.

Ashley County Cooperative Extension Service will make this training available to your Food Managers in Ashley County and surrounding areas. The two day training will yield 10 hours credit.

The importance of pollinators in generating of our food supply is underscored by the fact that 1/3 of fruits and vegetables require pollinator interaction to produce mature flowers/seed pods/fruit.  Pollinators include birds, bats, butterflies, moths, flies, beetles, wasps, small mammals, most importantly bees.  Honey Bees are only one of the many bee types which aid in pollination: paper wasps, yellow jacket carpenter bees, bumble bees, and sphecidae wasp are among those needing pollen and nectar to survive and in the process pollinate plants.  Pollinators also have a positive impact on beef, livestock, and dairy industries as they help pollinate forages and hay crops. Leslie Awarded 1st Degree Black Belt

IMG_3823Thirteen year old William Leslie of Monticello was awarded his 1st degree black belt on Sept. 17, 2019 at South Arkansas Martial Arts of Monticello.  He is a three-time Arkansas Sports Karate Circuit State champion in Traditional and Musical Weapons.  He has been a student at SAMAM for the past six years under the instruction of Master Richelle Danley and Mr. Geoff  Trisolinni.

Rutledge: Rural Arkansas to Benefit from T-Mobile/Sprint Merger

MDA Dance Showcase USA Nationals

dance1MDA’s Dance Competition team attended Dance Showcase USA Nationals in Dallas, Texas in June. MDA took 27 routines to nationals. Each routine is given an adjudication score of Elite Platinum, Platinum, Elite Gold, or Gold. They are placed within their category (tap, jazz, lyrical, etc), and they can receive overall placements out of their age division/level.
