Cross Roads Cemetery Association will meet for their Annual Meeting at 2pm on Sunday May 29th at the Cross Roads Missionary Baptist Church located at 1337 Hwy 278 West. Everyone is invited to attend.

On the morning of May 5, 2026, community leaders, child welfare experts, church leaders and concerned citizens gathered on the Monticello Town Square in support of children in foster care in Drew County. 

The event was collaboratively developed by The CALL in Southeast Arkansas, CASA of the 10^th Judicial District and the Division of Children and Family Services as an initiative to raise awareness and support for children in foster care in Southeast Arkansas during National Foster Care Awareness Month. 

During the event, Mayor Jason Akers delivered a Proclamation of May 2026 as Foster Care Awareness Month in Drew County. Akers recognized, “Foster care involves a community effort, including social workers, foster parents, advocates, and volunteers, who work tirelessly to ensure the well-being of children and youth in foster care.” 

Mainline Health is proud to announce it has received a $30,000 grant from the Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation to support the addition of a new dental operatory at its Star City Dental Clinic.

This expansion will significantly enhance the clinic’s capacity, allowing Mainline Health to serve more patients and reduce wait times for essential dental care in Lincoln County and surrounding communities. The additional operatory will help meet growing demand while advancing Mainline Health’s mission of providing accessible, high-quality oral health services.

“We are incredibly grateful to Delta Dental for investing in the health of our community through this grant opportunity,” says Dr. Skylar Garner from Mainline’s Star City Dental Clinic. “The addition of a new dental operatory will allow us to expand access to care and serve more patients who may otherwise go without essential dental treatment. This expansion is an important step forward in better meeting the growing needs of our community. We are proud to continue expanding the quality, compassionate care our patients deserve.”

The University College of Technology/Crossett is offering a Community Engagement Series made up of workshops presented at the Trotter House on Main Street in Monticello.

Mary has spent the last 25 years in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX teaching music and performing professionally. Mary has deep roots in Monticello having graduated from Monticello High School and then UAM with her BA in Music Education.  She is a former student of UAM Beverly Lobitz, Annette Hall, Joan Koskoski and Gary Meggs. 

Some of Mary’s credits include 7 years teaching public school music and then as Owner and Head Teacher of Mary Melodies, a private lesson school of music where she taught piano, voice, and all woodwinds.  She also spent 3 years performing as a clarinetist with the McKinney Wind Symphony. Mary sang high soprano II with the Dallas Symphony Chorus for 4 years.  She taught clarinet and flute for the Dallas Symphony Youth Orchestra. Featured in magazines like Shoutout DFW and Professions Women of Dallas, she was musical director at Artisan Theater and played lead roles in musicals such as My Fair Lady and Mary Poppins, starring in plays such as See How They Run and Jake’s Women.  Mary enjoyed taking improvisation classes at Four Day Weekend Comedy Club and went on to star in The Dinner Detective Murder Mystery Dinner Theater in Dallas for 4 years.

Performed by master puppeteers Dan and Zan Raynor, this show features beautifully hand-carved marionettes and brings a classic story to life for all ages.

This morning, a vehicle struck a light pole on South Main Street. AT&T has been contacted and is sending crews to the site to replace the pole.

Detour signs are in place as lines are down.

The Kiwanis Club of Monticello has announced its annual Flag Sale fundraiser, dedicated to supporting children throughout Drew County. This year’s campaign includes a special project in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, adding to this already meaningful community tradition.

Each year, Monticello residents honor or remember military personnel by purchasing American flags, which are prominently displayed on the City Square and in front of the courthouse. Each flag includes a card recognizing the donor and the individual(s) being honored.

Flags are available for a $30.00 donation and can include up to two dedications. Additional tributes may be added for $2.00 per name. Proceeds from the Flag Sale directly benefit programs that support local children, including bedroom makeovers, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, and scholarships to Girls State, Boys State, and the University of Arkansas at Monticello.

In recognition of this milestone year, the Kiwanis Club is also offering a new corporate sponsorship opportunity. Businesses can sponsor flags to be displayed at the highway intersection in front of Walgreens. Each sponsored flag will feature a large sign displaying the organization’s name and logo. Corporate sponsorships are available for $100 per flag.

Flags will be displayed from mid-May through the Fourth of July. At the conclusion of the display period, donors may either pick up their flags or donate them back to the Kiwanis Club to continue supporting its mission of “Saving One Child at a Time.”

ARDOT will begin milling the town square beginning this Sunday, April 19, 2026 beginning at 6:00 p.m. they will mill this area Sunday night, Monday and Tuesday nights tentatively beginning at the same time on the subsequent nights. We are sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause and thank you for your patience as we continue to rebuild Monticello’s roads and infrastructure.

The Master Gardeners of Drew County are offering a $500 scholarship to a college junior or senior majoring in agriculture, horticulture, plant science or related field. It can be awarded for two semesters. Deadline is April 15. PM Kathy King at 870-723-6166 for more information.

ATTENTION * WATER LEAK *The City of Monticello is working on a water main leak that has occurred and is causing low water pressure in the Parkwood Subdivision / North Hyatt street areas. City staff has responded and will be working on repairing the issue.

The Drew County Courthouse, Road Department, Sanitation Office, and Landfill will be closed Friday, April 3, 2026, in observance of Good Friday.

We will resume regular business hours on Monday, April 6, 2026. Trash routes will run as regularly scheduled.

On Monday, March 23, 2026 from 9am until 1 pm the City of Monticello will be repairing the large drainage culvert located on Mason Hill near the intersection of Mason Hill and East Willis Street. The closing is expected to last from 9am until 1pm.

All traffic on Mason Hill will be shut down during this time while this infrastructure improvement project is completed. Door hangers, robo-calls and other forms of notification have been utilized, but we want to be as thorough as possible to avoid any inconvenience for the residents of the neighborhood.
