$250,000 Bond for Man Who Shot at Dermott Police

Pistol10 th Judicial District Circuit Judge Don Glover set a $250,000 bond for a 44-year-old Southeast Arkansas man who shot at Dermott Police multiple times, last week.

MONTICELLO CHRISTIAN ACADEMY CELEBRATES A DECADE OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

mcaMonticello Christian Academy, a daycare through 12th grade private school located at 910 Old Warren Road in Monticello, AR, recently hosted its 10th annual Victory Ceremony. This is a time to celebrate the accomplishments that the students made through the year as well as honor the graduating seniors. The photo depicts some of MCA’s students with their awards.

Kelly Word, Director of Education, noted that it was “hard to believe we are already celebrating 10 years. It seems like yesterday when we started with just five students. We have and are certainly continuing to grow!”

DC’s Ward Davis Organizes Concert for Mayflower Choir, because of Ties to Former Choir Director

mayflowerDrew Central graduate and recoroding artis Ward Davis was a member of the DCHS Choir.

When he heard that former DC choir director Bennie Carol Wade Dunavan was the choir director for Mayflower Schools, and how much the devastating tornado had effected her current students, Davis organized a benefit concert at Nashville’s Douglas Corner Cafe, TONIGHT at 7:30, to help the Mayflower Choir .ward davis

Local folks can also be a part, by watching the fundraiser concert online at stageit.com.  The cost is only $10.

Davis’ band, The Beagles, will also perform.

Around 40 area residents took part in an informational discussion, Sunday afternoon,, after watching a video presentation by Rob Reep, of Warren, on the history of the Saline river.
“The Saline” is 204 miles long and has many stories to tell about indians, farming, fishing, bootlegging, and riverboats.

Splash Pad Opens at 1 pm, Today

padThe Jordan Park splash pad will open at 1:00, today.

The city pool opened last week, but due to filter and plumbing issues, the splash pad opening was postponed until today.

Guests from New Mexico in Town for Reunion

image34 years later, they now call Hagerville, New Mexico their home.

However, Tom and Denise were “back home, again” this weekend for a family reunion.

 

Notice to Drew County Taxpayers

Beth Davis, Drew County Assessor reminds everyone the deadline to assess your personal property taxes is May 31st, 2014.  You may do this by calling 870-460-6240, online at www.drewcountyassessor.com , www.actdatascout.com or by coming by the assessor’s office located in the courthouse.

A 10% late penalty will be added after this date.  Commercial personal property cannot be done by phone, a signature is required by law.

Reminder:  If you own your home and it is your primary residence you may qualify for up to a $350 homestead tax credit.  Please let our office know if you have become disabled or will turn 65 by December 31st, 2014.

Congressman Mike Ross, a Democratic candidate for Governor, held a rally and “meet and greet” at the Sadie Johnson Community Center, late Tuesday afternoon.

Ross was introduced by State Representative Sheilla Lampkin, then briefly spoke to the crowd from the podium. Hey spoke to members of the crowd of 160, as barbecue sandwiches were prepared for the group.
