Last month I had the opportunity to join local history buffs to proclaim March, Archaeology Month. The highlight of Archaeology Month was a weeklong volunteer dig at the Hollywood Plantation near Winchester? the site of the historic pre-civil war log cabin that is currently being restored and developed into a heritage site by UAM. I mention this project because it is such a great example of what is right about our community in 2016.

“There are serious questions about whether Drew Memorial Hospital can procede with it’s expansion plans,” is how County Attorney CLiff Gibson described the situation abound how DMH surgery center will be affected by 10 owrthwest Arkasas senators refusing to pass Gov. Hutchinson’a Arkansas Works program.

At Thursday’s parks comittee meeting, Mayor Zack Tucker discussed the possibility of hiring a full-time city parks director.

Landon Calhoun recently celebrated his 8th birthday. He asked for dog food to help feed the dogs being fostered by Monticello 2nd Chancefurdogs volunteers instead of gifts.

As you can see, his friends and family obliged.

Landon is the son of Monica Calhoun and Jay and Leah Maples.
