Around 2 PM, Sunday afternoon, the driver of this westbound Ford pick up lost control of his vehicle, as he was traveling toward Monticello on Highway 35, just east of the 278 bypass.
The Ford left the roadway, and became airborne after colliding with a driveway, narrowly missing a tree. DCSO worked the accident,
MASI responded, but did not transport.
At Thursday night’s special called City Council meeting, all six members of the council unanimously voted to have city clerk/treasurer Peggy Akers continue to serve as acting mayor, until the June 8 election to fill the reminder of Mayor Dane Weindorf’s term, which expires at the end of 2022.

During the night, several students made Jordan Lee’s MHS parking place into a memorial. Monticello schools issued the following statement, after removing the items.
This photo, taken Monday morning around 10:45, shows the Monticello Fire Department extinguishing a grass fire, reaching into a wooded area on Highway 83 N.
Later Monday there was a grass fire near Dollar Hill, on the east side of the county. Next, there were two grass fires reported on Old Highway 13.
Tuesday, a fire was reported just off of Highway 35 E., in Collins. This morning, a grass fire was extinguished near the 278 bypass, on 425 South.
As you’re traveling around the county, please keep an eye out for fires or anything that needs to be reported to authorities to prevent damage to property and possibly risk of life.
