According to the Union County Sheriff’s department,

Monticello‘s veterans organizations will again sponsor the annual Memorial Day service at the Drew County Courthouse, Monday. The event begins at 10 AM.

The meeting began with a heated discussion about the president of the school board being allowed to make motions, seconds and vote as a regular school board member.

The board went into executive session for over an hour, before coming out and taking a vote which was tied 3-3, causing the recommendation by superintendent Tracy Streeter to move head football coach Cecil Ray Cossey to athletic director to fail.

The motion to approve the recommendation was made by James Hartshorn, and seconded by Jim Wells.

Wells, Hartshorn and Shawn Carpenter voted in favor.

Board members Debbie Jackson, Suzanne Singleton & Maggie Ware voted against.

Shawn Hickman recused herself, due to a family relationship with Cossey.

Choosing to attend the University of Arkansas at Monticello was a decision that would change the trajectory of Jeff Felts’ life, but he didn’t know it at the time.
