When you enter early voting or an election site, the poll worker will ask you which ballot you want. You must tell them
Democratic ballot, which has the contested District 94 state representatives race on it;
Republican ballot, which includes the county judge and county clerks races; or
Nonpartisan ballot, which contains only judicial and school board races. (The judicial and school board races {where contested} will be on all ballots.)
Basically, you cannot vote on both ballots. It’s the law.
Chamber of Commerce volunteers worked with the Monticello Downtown Network Committee to prepare and hang flowering baskets around Monticello’s town square.
Each year, our Monticello Downtown Network committee members plan and develop new improvements and additions to the Historic Downtown Commercial District.
In 2021 MDN was responsible for adding the large mural located on the building at the southwest corner of the square. Plans for 2022 projects will be announced soon.
Monticello police chief Jason Akers, has filed for the position of Monticello Mayor, as a non-partisan candidate.
His recent announcement for the position is posted here.
Other candidates filing for office, so far, include
Bart Gregory, Mayor,
Whit Barton, city attorney, and
Claudia Hartness, alderman, Ward 2, Pos. 2.
Jury duty has been canceled for Wednesday, May 18, but is still on for Friday, May 20.
Jurors who received a letter to serve on those two days will only need to report on Friday.
Jurors are reminded that early voting is underway at the courthouse, and the parking lot will be crowded. They are advised to arrive in plenty of time to find a spot and be seated in the courtroom by 9 a.m.
