Drew County Veterans Day hosted by American Legion Post 2 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4515, your two local veteran organizations.

Please consider donating to these organizations they are in dire need of funds for their building. They need your help to continue to have a place for veterans to meet and support the community from.

The Monticello OEC Team recently completed, in Las Vegas, NV at the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow National Competition.

Team members include Jacob Woods, Braden Johnston, Samuel Napier, Levi Woods, Ryan Turner, Brad Johnston

Hot Rodders of Tomorrow is a nationwide high school engine building competition, where each student earns scholarships for attending and competing.

The Monticello team competed in 4 runs throughout the week. The best 3 out of 4 times were taken as well as a comprehensive engine exam score. There were 15 teams competing. Monticello took 8th place with their best run of a 27:39 with no errors. (more…)

In Tuesday night’s election for Monticello mayor, police chief, Jason Akers, defeated former mayor Joe Rogers and Bart Gregory, and was elected Mayor of Monticello.

Akers is a career law enforcement officer, and has served as local police chief since current mayor, Paige Chase, was elected and appointed him as MPD’s chief.

I want to give thanks to God, my family, friends and supporters. I am humbled by the support that each of you have shown throughout the last year and the words of encouragement. It sincerely means the world to me.

With that being said we have another obstacle to overcome and that is a runoff election on December 6th.

So please let’s keep the faith and momentum alive as we continue on this journey together in order to make Drew County a better and safer place to live, work, visit but most importantly raise a family.
