Judge Robert Akin advised the Quorum Court members at last night’s meeting that the Flood Damage Prevention Code, an ordinance passed in 2010 pertaining to construction in a flood plain, will be put into effect in Drew County as of May 20.

Big-Rig Driver Dies on 278 East – Update

imageShortly after 3 PM, Monticello Fire & Rescue, Drew County Sheriff’s Dept., Arkansas State Troopers, SEEMS, and Drew County OEM responded to the report of an 18-wheeler, it had run off of HWY 278 East of Monticello, near the 277 intersection.

Destroyed by Fire

imageThis residence, located on HWY 278, near Cherry St., was destroyed by fire around 3:30, Thursday morning.

The vacant structure was fully engulfed in flames when the Monticello Fire Dept. arrived on the scene.

The house was being dismantled before the fire.

Joe Rogers Files for Nov. Mayor Election as Independent

Joe RogersFormer Monticello Mayor Joe Rogers filed as an independent candidate, Wednesday, for the mayor’s position in the November election.

Rogers, along with four other candidates, have also filed for the interim mayor election, which will be held on June 24.
The deadline to file as an independent for the November election is May 19.  This deadline also applies to independent candidates for city council positions.
As of Thursday afternoon, no other candidates had officially file.
