Court began, Wednesday, with Myron Briggs, the alleged murder defendant, taking the stand, in his own defense.

When asked by his attorney, Briggs told the court that he is a felon, has been to prison, and in currently in ADC, for his parole being revoked, due to the current charges.

The Monticello Fire Department is currently accepting applications for volunteer firefighters.

Pick up an application at the central fire station at 114 W. Wood Ave. Applications will be accepted through Aug 3.

Contrary to a current rumor, the city of Monticello is not, and has not recently been under, a boil order for water service.

The Monticello 14U All-Stars won the USSSA state tournament, Sunday, in Conway.
