Weevil Jumpstart Program Applications Open at UAM

June 24th, 2026 by

Applications are open for the Weevil Jumpstart Program at the University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM). First-time freshmen who enroll in six credit hours during the Summer II session are eligible for the program. Classes run from July 1 to August 3.

Now entering its third year, the program continues to provide first-time freshmen with a strong foundation for academic success, personal growth and campus engagement as they transition into college life.

The program is designed to support incoming students prior to the start of the fall semester through academic enrichment, campus resource exploration, peer mentorship, leadership development and college readiness experiences. Participants, who live in on-campus housing during the four-week program, can build meaningful connections with faculty, staff and fellow students while gaining confidence in navigating university life.

“Student success begins before the first day of class,” said Jessica Foxworth, associate vice chancellor for Student Engagement and dean of students at UAM. “The Weevil Jumpstart Program provides students with the tools, relationships and support systems necessary to thrive academically and socially at UAM. We are proud of the impact this initiative has had and look forward to welcoming another group of future Weevils this summer.”

“One of my biggest goals has always been to get ahead and create opportunities for my future,” said Baylee Jo Allison, a freshman business administration student at UAM and a 2025 participant of the program. “The Weevil Jumpstart Program helped me do exactly that by giving me the guidance, resources and confidence to take meaningful steps toward achieving my goals.”

Since its launch in 2024, the program has demonstrated positive outcomes and continues to evolve to meet the needs of incoming students.

“The Weevil Jumpstart Program gave me a good idea of how academics would play out in college. I was able to lock in with fewer distractions before the fall semester, which gave me the start that I needed. It definitely helped me manage some of the anxiety that I felt during my freshman year,” said Josh Scott, a freshman business administration student at UAM.

Eligible students may receive funds to cover tuition and fees for the six credit hours during the Summer II session. Interested students should complete the 2025–26 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form by June 30 to be considered for financial aid. Early FAFSA submission is encouraged to maximize financial aid opportunities.

As UAM continues its commitment to student achievement and retention, the Weevil Jumpstart Program remains a key initiative in helping students make a successful transition from high school to college.

Interested prospective students should visit the Weevil Jumpstart Program webpage for details and a link to apply. For additional information, contact Jessica Foxworth at foxworth@uamont.edu or 870-460-1110.
