UAM School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences Presents Academic Awards

Four students from the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences at the University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) were recently recognized for their academic achievements during the 2025-2026 academic year.
Pronita Ghimire, a freshman from Nepal who is double-majoring in mathematics with a data science option and computer information systems, received the Calculus Award. A student must be enrolled in Calculus I during the current academic year and achieve the highest course average to be eligible for this award.
Ethan Clemons, a freshman from Star City, Arkansas, double-majoring in biology and biochemistry, received the Ed Bacon Biology Award. The award is presented in honor of Dr. Ed Bacon, who was a biology faculty member at the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences from 1974 to 2024. A student must be enrolled in Principles of Biology I and II and the corresponding labs during the current academic year and achieve the highest combined average in the courses to be eligible for this award.
Ethan Clemons, Alexandra Heard and Michael Patterson III each received the Walter Godwin Chemistry Award. Heard is a freshman from McGehee, Arkansas, double-majoring in biology and biochemistry. Patterson is a freshman from Little Rock, Arkansas, majoring in chemistry. The award is presented in honor of Dr. Walter Godwin, who was a chemistry faculty member at the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences from 1974 to 2007. A student must be enrolled in General Chemistry I and II and the corresponding labs during the current academic year and achieve the highest combined average in the courses to be eligible for this award.
“It is always an honor to present these awards to our outstanding students. It shows our students that we are paying attention to their progress and that we appreciate the hard work that they are putting into their studies,” said Dr. Shuneize Slater, dean of the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences at UAM. “It is a great way to end the academic year!”
