A Drew County jury today convicted Sabrina Anderson of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, a Class B felony, following a November 6, 2025, incident in Monticello. The jury recommended a sentence of ten (10) years in the Arkansas Department of Correction, which was imposed by Judge Robert Gibson III. Due to the defendant’s criminal history, Anderson will not be eligible for parole. The case stemmed from an encounter on November 6, 2025, when Officer Jaden Richardson of the Monticello Police Department observed Anderson attempting to hide upon seeing his patrol vehicle. After making contact, Officer Richardson determined that Anderson was on active probation with a search waiver on file. Upon being informed that a search would be conducted, Anderson became upset and uncooperative before eventually complying.

During the search, Anderson admitted to possessing illegal drugs. Officers located a small amount of marijuana and a loaded North American Arms .22-caliber revolver containing five rounds of ammunition. Further investigation confirmed Anderson was a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing a firearm. Anderson was arrested and transported to the Drew County Jail. Anderson was previously convicted of arson in 2019 and sentenced to the Arkansas Department of Corrections for a period of 60 months.

While at the jail, Anderson became irate during the booking process, stripping her clothing in front of officers and jail staff. As she was escorted to a cell, Anderson became combative and physically resisted officers and staff. The Drew County Sheriff’s Office was notified, and Sergeant Chris Austin responded to assist.

Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kelley Fortenberry praised the jury’s service following the verdict, stating, “We appreciate the careful attention and service of the jury in this case. It is vital to the safety of our community that violent felons are kept from possessing firearms. This verdict sends a clear warning to other violent felons in Drew County that these crimes will be taken seriously and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
