Last Thursday, around 9 AM, an underground concrete wall collapsed, where 3 city employees were working in a “vault” on the Bowser master water meter, near the intersection of Bowser Road and Babin Drive.  

The vault, approximately 8’ x 6’, and 7 ‘ tall, is accessible to employees by ladder. When closed, the vault (approximately 30–40 years old) is covered by a large metal plate, for safety to anyone in the area.

It is believed the collapse was caused by the large amount of water in the ground, combined with the weight of an excavator working to repair the water meter.

One of the injured employees was taken by ambulance to Drew Memorial, where he was treated and released. X-rays showed no major injuries. He reportedly returned to work, Monday, suffering  only bruises and soreness.

The other 2 workers were checked out by a local physician, and returned to work the next day.

The photo shows the vault full of water, but the water had been pumped out at the time the repair was in progress.

All employees passed the city’s mandatory accident-related drug test, and are back at work this week.
