Meth Trafficing Case (Drew County’s First) has Delivery Driver Bring Drugs to Relatives Home

September 26th, 2017 by

A Drew County jury deliberated less than 30 minutes, recently, in the trial of a local man before finding him guilty of trafficking over 400 grams of methamphetamine (approximately a pound).

Jamel Christian,  age 25 of Monticello, was arrested in December 2016 by the 10th Drug Task Force after Agents and local law enforcement delivered a package to him that contained the narcotics.

The package had been shipped through a nationally loan package delivery service,  recognized as drugs, and delivered by a law-enforcement agent, dressed in a very recognizable uniform.

The ackage was delivered to one of Christian’s relatives’ address, and the arrest took place.

After an even shorter deliberation, the jury sentenced Christian to 10 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections.

Due the amount of narcotics, which has a street value of over $44,000, the offense of trafficking mandates that 70% of the sentence be served.

This case is the first methamphetamine case charged as trafficking in Drew County.

Lt. Jason Akers would like to thank the Prosecuting Attorney’s office, as well as the Little Rock Police Department, Monticello Police Department and Drew County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance in the investigation.
